GIFT CARD POLICY

The Knit Studio has issued two types of Gift Cards.  Their use is dependent on the type of Gift Card purchased.

Type A: Only valid for In-Person purchases

These are physical gift cards sold in the store prior to January 15th, 2018 and do not include a QIR code on the back of the gift card.   These cards are reloadable and are required to be presented at the time of purchase and available for purchase in any amount.

Type B1: Valid for In-Person and Online purchases

These are physical gift cards sold in the store after January 15th, 2018 and include a QIR code on the back of the card.   For In-Person sales, these cards must be presented at the time of purchase.  For Online sales, the code on the card must be entered at checkout.   These cards are not reloadable.

Type B2: Valid for In-Person and Online purchases

These are digital gift cards sold online after January 15th, 2018 and can be printed out and used for In-Person sales at the store.   These gift cards were delivered via email to the individual who purchased the card and can be forwarded to the recipient for their use.  These cards are only available in a designated amounts and are not reloadable.

Valid Gift Card Use

Gift Cards are only valid for purchasing physical products from The Knit Studio.  Gift cards cannot be used to pay for services including, but not limited to:

  • Instructor Led Classes Fees
  • Informal Instruction Fees
  • Finishing and Blocking Charges
  • Yarn Winding Fees
  • Help Desk Fees
  • Special Event Fees

Gift cards also cannot be used to pay for the purchase of any finished goods offered for sale by The Knit Studio such as store samples, consignment items, or commissioned items.

Gift Card Registration

All Type B gift cards are registered under the name of the customer who purchases the gift cards.    The individual who purchased the gift card is responsible for delivering the gift card to the recipient.

Type A gift cards were registered under the name of the recipient if known at the time of purchase.  If not known, the gift card may or may not have been registered under the name of the customer who purchased the gift card.

Customer experience

When making a purchase in the store, a customer can redeem the value of a gift card by entering its unique code at checkout. A gift card holds a balance, which can be spent over more than one order.

When a customer redeems a gift card, the checkout will display one of two options:

  • If the balance available on the gift card is greater than or equal to the order total, then the customer can click Complete order.
  • If the balance available on the gift card is less than the order total, then the customer will be prompted to choose a second payment method for the balance before placing the order.

Balance Information

To check the balance, for Type A gift cards, customers must use the 800 number to find out the current balance of the gift card.   The customer will need to provide and have the gift card number available to obtain the current balance.    Since Type A gift cards are administered by a 3rd party, The Knit Studio does not have access to the current balance.  Note: Type A Gift Cards were retired February 28th, 2018, see the Gift Card Retirement section below.

Customers must contact The Knit Studio at shop@theknitstudio.com to find out the balance for all Type B gift cards.

For Type A gift cards, the remaining balance will display on the credit card receipt.  For Type B gift cards, the remaining balance will also appear on the display at the time of checkout.

Promotional Gift Cards

The Knit Studio may issue promotional gift cards to customers and employees.  These gift cards will be Type B2 gift cards, in which we generate a gift card code, and email it to a customer or employee without receiving any payment in return.   Unlike Type B2 gift cards purchased online, The Knit Studio will determine the value of the gift card at the time of issuance.  The customer or employee can use its value toward other products both In-Person and online.

Security and Responsibility

After a gift card is issued, the full gift card code is visible only to the customer because gift cards are considered currency. Store employees can see only the last four characters in the code for the gift card once it has been issued.

The Knit Studio is not responsible for reimbursing customers or employees for lost or stolen gift cards.   Customers are requested to notify The Knit Studio if a gift card is lost or stolen.   Once notified The Knit Studio will register the gift card as lost/stolen and prevent it's future redemption and notify the customer if the card is returned to the store.

Gift Card Expiration

Gift cards have a five (5) year expiration date from the last date they were loaded with funds.  This expiration date may be extended if indicated on the receipt at the time of purchase.

The Knit Studio does not charge a dormancy fee for gift cards with no activity for twelve (12) months.

Gift Card Retirement

Gift cards may be retired if either the technology required to process them or the provider of the gift card services is no longer available.   The Knit Studio will maintain a register of all unredeemed gift cards and the balance as of the date of retirement.

Promotional  gift cards will be voided immediately, while customer issued gift cards presented In-Person will continue to be honored for five (5) years from the original date of issuance, with the balance based on the amount registered when retired.

At it's own discretion, The Knit Studio may issue a replacement gift card for the balance for any retired gift card which is within five (5) years from the original date of issuance.
