Here is a basic hat pattern with a variety of pattern stitches. Make a Swatch! Choose a yarn and knit a swatch on the size needle recommended. Adjust the needle to get the desired fabric. Measure the stitches over 2 inches. Find the gauge on the chart and pick a size. The chart lists stitches to cast on and yardage. For a fold up edge, knit 2" longer for the small size and 3" longer for the adult size.
